Complementary advanced approach to supportive therapies

At New Mindset Therapy, our clinicians integrate advanced therapeutic frameworks like Polyvagal Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Ego State Therapy, and Shadow Work into a wide range of treatment approaches.

These models help us understand the layered, often hidden parts of your inner world—including protective patterns, suppressed emotions, and unconscious beliefs.

By combining these insights with brain-based therapies such as EMDR, Somatic Therapy, or CBT, we’re able to support deeper nervous system regulation, emotional safety, and self-awareness. This integrative approach allows clients not only to heal from trauma, but to reconnect with their authentic Self, restore inner balance, and create lasting change from the inside out.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful, evidence-based, and trauma-informed approach to psychotherapy that helps individuals understand and heal the different “parts” of themselves. IFS views the mind as a system of sub-personalities—such as the inner critic, the protector, or the wounded child—each playing a role in how we cope, relate, and navigate the world. Rather than trying to eliminate these parts, IFS guides clients toward reconnecting with their core Self—the calm, compassionate, and curious inner leader capable of bringing healing and balance. This approach is particularly effective for treating complex trauma, PTSD, emotional dysregulation, and attachment wounds, and can be integrated with somatic therapy, polyvagal work, or EMDR for deeper healing. At New Mindset Therapy, IFS allows clients to explore their inner world safely and gently, leading to greater self-awareness, emotional freedom, and inner harmony.

Polyvagal-Informed Therapy

Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, is a groundbreaking framework that explains how our nervous system responds to safety, danger, and connection. It helps us understand why we might feel calm and open one moment, and anxious, shut down, or overwhelmed the next. At New Mindset Therapy, we use a polyvagal-informed approach to support clients in recognizing and regulating these physiological states.

Rather than viewing emotional reactions as “bad” or “irrational,” Polyvagal Theory teaches us that responses like fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown are the nervous system’s natural ways of protecting us. In therapy, we help clients reconnect with their body’s signals, develop tools for regulation, and gradually build a sense of safety, both internally and in relationships.

Polyvagal-informed therapy is often integrated into our work with trauma, anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, and emotional dysregulation. It complements modalities like EMDR, Somatic Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to create a gentle, deeply attuned healing process that honours both your biology and your lived experience.

Mindfulness & Breathwork

At New Mindset Therapy, we integrate mindfulness and breathwork into many of our therapeutic approaches to help clients reconnect with the present moment, calm their nervous system, and access a deeper sense of inner awareness. These practices are simple yet powerful tools that support emotional regulation, stress reduction, and overall mental clarity.

Mindfulness involves gently paying attention to your thoughts, feelings, and body sensations without judgment. It helps create space between stimulus and response, allowing you to respond to life with intention rather than reactivity. Breathwork complements this by using specific breathing techniques to regulate the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and increase feelings of safety and stability in the body.

Mindfulness and breathwork are especially helpful for individuals experiencing anxiety, trauma, burnout, or emotional overwhelm, and are often woven into sessions alongside therapies like EMDR, Somatic Therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These practices offer clients a pathway to feel more grounded, calm, and connected in their daily lives.
