Brain-Based & Trauma-Informed Therapies at New Mindset Therapy

At New Mindset Therapy, we specialize in evidence-based, brain-body therapies that go beyond talk alone. Our approach helps clients access deeper healing by working directly with the nervous system and subconscious patterns shaped by trauma, stress, and lived experience.

Our skilled clinicians are trained in a variety of advanced modalities to support safe, effective, and lasting transformation. We are proud to have an EMDRIA-Certified EMDR Therapist on our team, bringing the gold standard in trauma therapy to our community.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most researched and respected trauma treatments worldwide, and our certification reflects the highest level of training and ethical practice in this field. In a region where access to advanced trauma care can be limited, New Mindset Therapy is honoured to offer this level of excellence, compassion, and expertise—right here in Cornwall, Brockville, and across Ontario virtually..

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)

EMDR is a highly effective, research-backed therapy designed to help individuals reprocess traumatic memories and emotional distress that are stored in the brain and body. Instead of reliving the past, EMDR allows you to revisit distressing memories in a controlled and supported way, while using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) to reduce the emotional charge attached to those memories.

At New Mindset Therapy, EMDR is used to treat PTSD, anxiety, childhood trauma, grief, chronic stress, and more. Over time, the memory becomes less painful, and your brain creates new, healthier associations, allowing you to respond to life with more clarity, confidence, and calm

Somatic Therapy

Somatic Therapy focuses on the connection between your body, emotions, and nervous system. Trauma and stress often live in the body, showing up as tension, pain, fatigue, or disconnection. Somatic therapy gently brings awareness to bodily sensations, breath, posture, and physical responses to help release what’s been held in.

At New Mindset Therapy, we integrate somatic approaches to help clients regulate their nervous system, reconnect with their bodies, and feel safer in the present moment. This approach is especially helpful for those who feel stuck in patterns of fight, flight, freeze, or shutdown—even after traditional talk therapy.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a powerful, brain-based therapy designed to help individuals access, process, and release trauma, emotional pain, and deeply rooted distress. This approach is based on the idea that “where you look affects how you feel”—and by focusing on specific eye positions, Brainspotting helps connect to areas in the brain where unprocessed experiences are stored.

During a Brainspotting session at New Mindset Therapy, your therapist will guide you to identify a “brainspot”—a visual point linked to an unresolved issue—and support you as your body and brain naturally begin to process and heal from within. This technique is especially effective for trauma, anxiety, performance blocks, chronic pain, and emotional overwhelm, and can be used with or without talking.
