Our Story

Unable to ignore the resounding call of their authentic selves, Katie and Jill endeavoured to cultivate a vision of progress and forward thinking. Together, their personal and professional journeys came to a crossroads and New Mindset Therapy was born. New Mindset Therapy is a Therapy and Yoga Centre that focuses on the mind and body connection. As a fully immersive wellness experience that bridges the gap between the mind and body, New Mindset Therapy is the first facility of its kind in our community. Our founders understand the journey of navigating a complicated system that fails to connect the mind, body and environment as a collective to healing our maladaptive responses developed and influenced by our unhealthy environment. This common ground helps our team members connect with each one of our clients on a human-to-human level, creating a world where the human experience is normalized, and people are empowered to live full, healthy lives emphasizing the person and not their labels.

Katie Michaud, BSW, RSW

I am a Registered Social Worker and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional with over 15 years of experience in the medical and mental health field. I believe that the most important aspect of the therapeutic relationship is a secure, relaxed, and non-judgmental space where clients can begin to heal toward a more hopeful and fulfilling life. My approach is genuine and compassionate. I strongly believe that a healthy physical, mental and environmental connection is the foundation of a fulfilling life and drives my approach to your therapeutic experience.

My preferred modalities are cognitive behavioural therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and Schema therapy. When I’m not working, I'm a loving and nurturing father to my 9-year-old son who is on the ASD spectrum and is nonverbal.

New Mindset Therapy - Jill Hodgson, Registered Social Worker with 17 years of experience.

My journey as a Registered Social Worker emerged within the truth of our shared humanity, one uncertain step at a time. Each step taken was a response to a relentless inner calling for growth, to embrace my own beautiful human journey and to strive to be authentic in all my moments. Through my own journeying, I have developed a deep passion for supporting others along their path of self-acceptance and courage, as they strive towards the highest levels of health and well-being possible.

As a Clinical Social Worker, I have sought to explore modalities that recognize the complexity and dynamism of the human experience. My journey of working for 17 years in clinical mental health has led me to an approach that embraces the mind-body connection while de-pathologizing our human challenges. This approach seeks to understand the impact of both trauma and larger dysfunctional social narratives on the development of mental health challenges, addictions, and challenging adaptive human behaviours.

I strive to embrace an integrative approach based on our increasing understanding of the neuro-physiology of trauma and the central nervous system which weaves together my roles as a Clinical Registered Social Worker, Certified Trauma Professional, Certified Yoga Teacher, Brainspotting Practitioner (Phase I, Phase II, Digging Roots Developmental Trauma approach to BSP, in process training on Brainspotting and Dissociative Disorders), Narrative practitioner, Motivational Interviewing, and a specialization in Therapeutic Modalities in Mindfulness (ACT, MBCT, MBSR, DBT, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness for Trauma. Most importantly, I seek to use the incredible power inherent in the client-therapist relationship, rooted in attunement, creating a space of unconditional acceptance and compassion.

Jill Hodgson, BA Psy Soc MSW RSW CACII

I am a Registered Social Worker with over 20 years of experience in the helping profession. During my learning journey, I have acquired two master’s degrees focused on my passion for spirituality and religious studies with the intention of teaching. In my early years, I devoted my life to preaching and helping as an Anglican priest for 12 years. Like many; life took an unexpected turn and I pursued a bachelor of social work degree and left the church. I am passionate about helping those who struggle with depression, anxiety, life transitions, spiritual issues and religious trauma.

I have extensive experience working with individuals, couples, in group settings and indigenous peoples in both French and English. Being aware of my privilege as a caucasian male, I was intimately involved with several initiatives aimed at healing wounds, reconciliation, and decolonization. I love creating a space for people to heal and feel at peace which can be very hard to find in today’s world.

My preferred modalities are narrative therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, mindfulness and practice with a trauma-informed approach.

When I’m home I am passionate about being a devoted husband and father, continued learning and physical fitness understanding the connection between physical and mental wellbeing. I look forward to continued learning and providing healing to the Cornwall and Area Community.

New Mindset Therapy - Micaela Harley, Registered Social Worker.

I wholeheartedly believe that the more we talk about things, the easier life becomes. As a registered social worker, I am committed to serving children, youth, and adults on their path of growth, healing, and overall well-being by creating safe and comfortable spaces My interest in this field began when I accessed services for my mental health, experiencing firsthand the profound impact that therapeutic relationships can have on wellness. I eventually obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree, with minors in psychology, neuroscience, and mental health, as well as a Masters of Clinical Science, concentrating on Health Leadership: Towards Enhancing Health Services, Systems, and Policy. I am also a member of the Canadian College of Healthcare Leaders.

I operate from a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive approach, embracing the reality that every individual's journey is unique. My role is to offer support that is not only compassionate and person-centred, but also deeply informed by the latest developments in neuroscience. Concepts like polyvagal theory and The Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics excite me as they provide roadmaps to understanding and healing that go beyond the surface and acknowledge underlying neurological and developmental factors. Whether it's helping a child navigate the complexities of their emotions by exploring specific brain regions or supporting an adult processing trauma through nervous system coping tools, I've seen firsthand how understanding the functions of the brain and body can pave the way for sustained healing. In my practice, I also harness Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, The Internal Family Systems Model, Art Therapy, and Play Therapy.

Outside my one-on-one interactions, I'm deeply committed to system transformation efforts, working at community, provincial, national, and international levels to support more timely, equitable, and impactful services and supports, specifically as they relate to children, youth, and their caregivers. When I am not working, you can find me exploring nature, reading, attending yoga classes, or spending quality time with family and friends.

Micaela Harley BSW, RSW, MCIS, CCHL

Since April 2012, I have been practicing as a Registered Social Worker in health and community settings. I proudly grew up in rural Ontario; I bring northern hospitality and charm to the therapeutic space.

I am committed to providing high quality trauma-informed care while recognizing and building on each person’s strengths. I firmly believe in the interconnectedness of physical and mental health. My experience has taught me that the most successful psychotherapeutic interventions takes place within a non-pathologizing and collaborative experience between the therapist and the client. Healing and growth occurs within the context of therapeutic trust and safety, where we explore the impact of broader social factors on individual well-bring. This is evidence of the therapist’s level of skill, knowledge and effectiveness.

I hold degrees in Psychology, Gerontology and Social Work, in addition to various clinical psychotherapeutic trainings throughout my career. My experience includes practicing in Community Health Centre’s, hospitals, and a publicly-funded mental health organization. I have experience working with various populations (18+); including by not limited to older adults, people with indigenous roots/background, and newcomers; anyone looking to build insight and create change is welcome.

My professional achievements includes but is not limited to:

  • Panelist for Champlain Centre for Health Care Ethics Symposium

  • Completion of University Health Network’s Leadership in Health Care Certificate

  • Creating, facilitating and evaluating community wellness programs

  • Navigating Ontario’s health care and social systems for clients and families

I strongly value continuous learning to effectively apply clinical tools. Currently, I primarily draw from modalities such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Compassionate Inquiry, Polyvagal Theory and Internal Family Systems. Most recently, I have been exploring the fascinating world of interpersonal neurobiology. Informed by the latest developments in psychotherapeutic treatments, I will tailor a treatment plan unique to your needs and experiences.
